A Constitutional Convention for NY State? Debating the Pros and Cons

New York voters have the opportunity every 20 years to vote on whether to convene a constitutional convention to revise the state's constitution. The question will be on the ballot November 7, and in advance of the vote The Indypendent will host a public debate featuring both supporters and opponents of holding a constitutional convention, or ConCon.

Progressive groups in New York that are normally allies are deeply divided on the issue. Supporters see a unique opportunity to reform a broken state government while opponents warn Albany's swampy culture of corruption could subsume attempts at reform and threaten longstanding protections for public workers, the environment and indigent people.

Sliding Scale: $5-$10, nobody turned away
